"Media vita in morte sumus" or "Mitten in dem Leben" or "In the Midst of Life"

If you read enough Luther it is amazing to see how much this thought/theme comes up...

From the Lutheran Service Book, No. 755, verse 3

"In the midst of utter woe
AAAAWhen our sins oppress us,
Where shall we for refuge go,
AAAAWhere for grace to bless us?
To Thee, Lord Jesus, only!
Thy precious blood was shed to win
AAAAFull atonement for our sin.
Holy and righteous God!
Holy and mighty God!
Holy and all merciful Savior!
Eternal Lord God!
Lord, preserve and keep us
AAAAIn the peace that faith can give.
Have mercy, O Lord!" (LSB 755:3)

And in this volume too, AELW 1:197

"Meanwhile our life is a life in the midst of death. And yet, even in the midst of death, the hope of life is kept, since the Word so teaches, directs, and promises."
